GUIDANCE FOR READERS & INTERCESSORS:
Ending: (after a pause) "This is the word of the Lord." to which the congregation respond "Thanks be to God."
Do not add any other information, before or after these words.
Congregation respond "Glory to you, O Lord."
Ending: "This is the gospel of our Lord", to which the congregation respond "Praise to you, O Christ."
- Familiarise yourself with your reading before the service;
- Come forward to the lectern during the hymn, psalm or canticle which precedes it, so that you are already in place and ready to begin your reading or intercessions straightaway;
- Announce the reading simply - it is not necessary to give "chapter and verse";
- At a non-communion service:
Ending: (after a pause) "This is the word of the Lord." to which the congregation respond "Thanks be to God."
- At the communion service, for the gospel:
Do not add any other information, before or after these words.
Congregation respond "Glory to you, O Lord."
Ending: "This is the gospel of our Lord", to which the congregation respond "Praise to you, O Christ."
- Only move from the lectern once the congregation have given their response.
